HKU Campus February 20, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — lifeaftercal @ 6:57 pm

At this point, I’m pretty comfortable with the campus now. I know where most things are and know where to print/get free printing. The HKU campus is not big. Probably the same amount of buildings in Berkeley but at a closer proximity. HKU is built on a huge SF-like hill. Pretty much my walk from class to class involves climbing and going down one million flights of stairs. But usually going up there are escalators.

My usual walk to class in the morning starts with 4 flights of stairs to reach an elevator. Elevator takes us up to the next floor where we go across a bridge to go to the next building. Then we exit the building to climb another flight of stairs. Then take 4 sets of escalators to exit to the ground floor area of the next building. Then I take one more elevator up to go to the first floor of that building. First floor is actually the 2nd since they call the bottom floor the ground floor.

It sounds pretty complicated but its actually pretty easy to get around. I like how much closer the buildings are. And usually building are built up, not spread out. We get 5 minutes to walk from class to class. You would think thats enough for how small the campus is, but waiting for elevators is a hassle. A million people trying to get on the same elevator to get on the 15th floor is not fun. Stop at every level. -_-

Back from Singapore!

Filed under: Uncategorized — lifeaftercal @ 6:52 pm

Went on a weekend trip to Singapore! Spent a total of about $450 for everything. >.< Singapore was not as cheap as I expected. If anything, it’s about the same price as the US. At this rate, I’m going to spend just as much as tuition! Sigh. It was really fun though! We went clubbing at Zouk and stayed there until they closed. It was like three clubs in one. We ate all the Singaporean specialties, sting ray, frog porridge, chili crab, black pepper crab. Went to Chinatown, Little India, Clark Quay, Boat Quay, Marina Bay Sands. I got henna in Little Indian and threaded my eyebrows! First time in a long time I tended to my eyebrows…cept it’s too thin and I don’t like it. =[ Thought brown places would be good at this, but I think the one in NYC was a lot better.

ALSO, we stayed at hostels. And the verdict is that I’ll never stay at one again. We stayed at 3 different hostels all 3 nights. First one was the best, cept the guy on the top bunk kept snoring. The 2nd one smelled like an animal shelter and the last one smelled like Indian. >.< My HKU bed seems like such a treat. SO GLAD TO BE HOME.

School is picking up. I have a lot of work to do. Also, trip planning is super stressful. Planning a trip to Thailand in two weeks right now. Group of 10. WOOOOOO.

Day in Macau February 13, 2012

Life is good when the most stressful part of my day is deciding what food to eat and trip planning.

Went to Macau on Saturday with mostly Canadians from HKUST. It was so much fun and they were a super fun group to hang out with! Woke up at 730 and got on the 915 ferry. We lost a guy that was supposed to come with us because he got on the later ferry. He couldn’t find us and took the ferry home. 😦 We ate a lot of food and went around to all the touristy places which was not much. At night we went to the casinos (Venetian and Galaxy). I played slots at Galaxy and won $42! Lol that paid for my dim sum at 3am. We also lost the other half of the group when we went to Venetian. Thats the problem when we don’t have cell phones to contact either other! Blackjack is so expensive. Cheapest table I found was $200hkd. Thats a 26$ hand. So obviously if i dont even play $5 hands in Vegas, no way im going to play 5x that amount. Lol we left Macau at 1amqnd got back around 230. I suggested we get dim sum cuz i didn’t eat dinner so we walked to the 3am dim sum place. We had some trouble finding it but when we did, the place was PACKED. The streets were completely deserted you shouldn’t expect anyone to be awake but ya, so ridiculous. Spent my winnings on delicious dim sum and went home with my roomie in a cab! 🙂 Super fun day. We ended up not going hiking the next day cuz we were friken exhausted.

In Xi’an for Chinese New Year! February 5, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — lifeaftercal @ 2:58 pm

So I’m in Xi’an for Chinese New Year! I left at 7am this morning and got here at 5pm. Finally had some yummy food after a day if traveling. Everyone is so pushy here. I hate it. Everyone talks to you like you owe them something. Its pissing me off now. To top it off, someone stole my cell phone in Xi’an. I told my dad expecting to be yelled at. All he said was, it’s better that it was stolen and not snatched from you. I guess he expected this to happen. Oii keeping my iPhone 4 at home now so i probably wont have any pictures of Xian anytime soon! But its so much more festive here and theres so much snow! Happy Chinese New Year!!!

So this post was supposed to be posted Jan 22, but since China blocks WordPress as well, it was not.

Okay, I have seriously partied every single night. It’s like I’m on permanent vacation. Went to Wan Chai last night, saw a really UGLY girl dancing on top of a bar. Got free drinks & free clubbinggg. Went to Lan Kwai Fong tonight. HELLA POPPINGGGG. Went to Shake Shake. Got like 5 tequila shots and a mixed drink. Btw, this is all FREE. Good to be a girl in asia. There is a lack of so I guess thats how they attract girls and thus guys to come to their club! Seriously, come to HK. I got so many free drinks and all I pay is the taxi ride, about $27 aka $4USD. So cheap for a whole night out!

ALL MOVED IN! January 15, 2012

Sorry I haven’t updated anything in such a long time! I barely had any down time in Taiwan and I just took some time to unpack my stuff today in Hong Kong (today is my second day here). I will post more about my TAIPEI trip later as I don’t have much time right now.

So I still can’t believe I will actually be living here for the next four months. It definitely feels like a vacation. I still haven’t set foot on campus nor do I know which classes I am taking as I haven’t attended orientation to find out which classes I am enrolled in. I will figure that out tomorrow on the first day of school. WOOHOOO.

Anyways, quick update on my living situation. I’m in a room with three other girls so a 4-person room. It’s pretty spacious, mostly because everything is lofted and the twin beds here are way smaller than the twins at home. My hall is like dorm style, bathroom and showers are outside down the hall. I haven’t met anyone from my floor yet though. =/

OH. If I go home and got fatter, then I consumed WAYYY too much food in Hong Kong. I am climbing hills and walking miles everyday. If that doesn’t balance out a little with my diet, I am going to cry and kill myself for being a fat ass. You guys gotta let me know.

Okie, that’s all the time I have to update. I still need to figure out classes and shower so I can sleep early and get up at 8am tomorrow!Â
